GOING TO THE SUN RALLY ANNOUNCES PRIMARY BENEFICIARIES OF UPCOMING 2010 VINTAGE CAR RALLY

Wounded And Disabled Montana Veterans And Families Of Fallen Montana Highway Patrol Officers To Receive Donations

BOZEMAN, MONTANA – February 10, 2010 –The Going to the Sun Rally, a vintage car rally benefiting Montana charities, today announced the theme and principal beneficiaries for the sixth annual event to be held September 6 – 11, 2010. The theme of the 2010 rally is “Grateful for the Morning,” thanking and honoring the men, women and families of those who serve to keep Montana and our country free and safe. The principal beneficiaries will be the Fallen Officers Fund of the Montana Highway Patrol, and wounded and disabled Montana Veterans.

“Over the past five years the rally has donated over $280,000 to deserving Montana charities, including more than $150,000 to support the families of men and women who have sacrificed to keep us safe, the fallen officers of the Montana Highway Patrol,” said Farnum Alston, a native Montanan, Bozeman resident, and co-founder and director of the rally. “This year we are proud to broaden our scope and also support men and women who have sacrificed to keep us free – wounded and disabled Montana Veterans. Some of our Montana Veterans can’t even afford gas money to travel to treatment centers for necessary medical attention,” said Mr. Alston. “This is tragic and needs to change.”

The Rally, which is limited to 40 vintage cars (1972 and earlier), is not a “race” but an historic “driving adventure” across the west – Montana and occasionally adjacent states or Canada. This year’s Rally will start September 6th in Bozeman, MT, and travel through Jackson Hole, WY, Sun Valley, ID, Missoula, MT, and Helena, the Montana state capital, ending in Bozeman on 9/11.

“People come from all over the US to participate in the Going To The Sun Rally,” said Jim Dolan, Board Chairman, “and we all have two things in common. We love Montana, and we are grateful every morning to be Americans and to be free.”

The Going To The Sun Rally has just donated to a special fund to help wounded and disabled Veterans in Montana afford the travel expenses to get the treatment they need. “There is a critical gap in support for these young men and women who have to travel long distances to get assistance at the Veterans Hospital in Helena or at Veterans centers around the state,” said Jim Sitton, a Three Forks resident and rally co-founder and director.

The Rally has supported a variety of additional charities including Clark Fork Coalition, Scholarships for Montana High School Graduates, the Northwest Montana Medical Telecommunications Network, Big Brothers and Sisters of Livingston, MT, Blackfoot Community College, De Lasalle Christian Brothers School in Browning, Igniters Car Club, and Madison Valley Hospital and Clinic.
